Georgia Chiropractic Summary

The Georgia Board of Chiropractic Examiners regulates the practice and licensure of chiropractic in Florida. The Board reviews applications, licenses qualified applicants, and regulates the practice of licensees throughout the state.

Doctors of Chiropractic shall have the right to adjust patients according to specific chiropractic methods and shall observe public health regulations, sign health certificates, reporting to the proper health officers the same as other practitioners. Doctors of Chiropractic shall not prescribe or administer medicine to patients, perform surgery, nor practice obstetrics or osteopathy.

** Renewal is required by December 31st of even number years. If you do not renew by December 31st, you cannot practice until your license is renewed or reinstated.

Post-Licensing Education

Continuing Education requirements

Each licensed chiropractor is required to obtain a minimum of 20 hours per year of the two-year renewal period. This means that a licensee must have a total of 40 hours of continuing education during the two years preceding the license expiration date. 15 hours each year must be in clinical sciences; 4 hours each year must be in ethics or risk management; and, 1 hour each year must be in Georgia laws & rules. The Georgia Board of Chiropractic Examiners only allows a total of 20 hours of CE per biennial renewal period to be obtained via the audio/visual/electronic media category. Link: https://sos.ga.gov/page/faq-board-chiropractors

requirements for educators

All continuing education providers seeking approval of the continuing education program by the Georgia Board of Chiropractic Examiners shall submit a Program Approval Form for each program presented. These forms should be submitted 60 days in advance of the program to be considered for approval. Link: https://rules.sos.ga.gov/gac/100-5

Qualifications:

1. Chiropractors in Georgia can perform manipulation under anesthesia (MUA) if a surgeon orders it, schedules the procedure, and sedates the patient. However, the Georgia Board of Chiropractic Examiners’ position on the issue is not known.

2. Chiropractors may sign health certificates; however, each institution may choose whether to accept physicals performed by chiropractors.

4. Chiropractors can perform DOT exams in Georgia if they are licensed medical examiners and listed on the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration (FMCSA) National Registry.

5. Chiropractors in Georgia can perform acupuncture if they are licensed to do so under Article 3 of Chapter 34 of the Georgia Code

6. Chiropractors cannot prescribe or administer medicine, perform surgery, or practice obstetrics or osteopathy. They also cannot use venipuncture, capillary puncture, acupuncture, or any other technique that is invasive of the human body.
