Florida Chiropractic Summary
Chiropractic physicians may adjust, manipulate, or treat the human body by manual, mechanical, electrical, or natural methods; by the use of physical means or physiotherapy, including light, heat, water, or exercise; by the use of acupuncture; by the use of monofilament intramuscular stimulation treatment, also known as dry needling, for trigger points or myofascial pain; or by the administration of foods, food concentrates, food extracts, and items for which a prescription is not required and may apply first aid and hygiene.

Post-Licensing Education
Continuing Education requirements
40 hours required every 2 years. All allowed online through asynchronous learning. Required subjects include Florida Laws and Rules (2 hours), Risk Management (1 hour), Recordkeeping and Documentation (6 hours), Ethics and Boundaries (2 hours).

Qualifications:
1. Chiropractors must be trained in concussion management.
2. Chiropractors in Florida can perform DOT exams if they are certified medical examiners on the FMCSA National Registry.
3. Only licensed veterinarians or licensed chiropractors who have completed a board-approved course in animal chiropractic may practice animal chiropractic in Florida.
4. After completing the required coursework and passing the exam, the Florida Board of Chiropractic Medicine will issue a letter certifying the chiropractor’s authorization to practice acupuncture.
5. Chiropractors must complete a 40-hour dry needling certification course approved by the Board of Chiropractic Medicine. Once the course is complete, the Board of Chiropractic Medicine will issue a letter certifying the chiropractor’s authorization to practice dry needling.
6. Chiropractic physicians are expressly prohibited from prescribing or administering to any person any legend drug except as authorized under subparagraph 2., from performing any surgery except as stated herein, or from practicing obstetrics.
