Indiana Chiropractic Summary

The Indiana Professional Licensing Agency regulates the practice and licensure of chiropractic.

The practice of chiropractic will include and permit the use of such diagnostic and treatment procedures as are taught by board approved chiropractic colleges except as prohibited by law.

Post-Licensing Education

Continuing Education requirements

Under the statutory provision as listed below, if a program is designed to directly enhance the practitioner’s knowledge and skill in providing services relevant to the chiropractor’s profession or occupation and falls under an “Approved Organization” it is no longer necessary to apply for continuing education approval by the Indiana Board of Chiropractic Examiners. Link: https://www.in.gov/pla/professions/chiropractors-home/chiropractors-resources/#Continuing_Education_Requirements

Qualifications:

1. A chiropractor can perform a Department of Transportation (DOT) physical exam if they are a certified medical examiner (CME) listed on the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration’s (FMCSA) National Registry.

2. The chiropractor must be a Doctor of Veterinary Medicine (DVM) or a Doctor of Chiropractic (DC) who has completed training and is certified by an association like the AVCA, IVCA, or CoAC.

3. Chiropractors shall not perform surgery or direct the use of or administer drugs or other controlled substances.
