Montana Chiropractic Summary
Licensed Doctors of Chiropractic may diagnose, palpate, and treat the human body by the application of manipulative, manual, mechanical, and dietetic methods, including chiropractic physiotherapy, the use of supportive appliances, analytical instruments, and diagnostic X-ray in accordance with guidelines promulgated or approved by the State or Federal Health Regulatory Agencies.

12 hours, a maximum of 2 hours in philosophy. All hours are allowed online.

The board does not approve continuing education (CE). Acceptable CE must directly relate to the practice of chiropractic and be affiliated or approved by national, regional, or state chiropractic associations, state licensing boards, academies, colleges of chiropractic, or the Federation of Chiropractic Licensing Board providers of PACE.

Qualifications:
1. A chiropractor can perform a Department of Transportation (DOT) physical exam if they are a certified medical examiner (CME) listed on the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration’s (FMCSA) National Registry.
2. Before providing chiropractic services to animals, a licensed chiropractor shall complete a recognized animal chiropractic certification program. A chiropractor shall notify the board and the board of veterinary medicine, provided for in 2-15-1852, of the chiropractor’s intent to practice animal chiropractic services and provide the board with appropriate information showing certification in animal chiropractic services.
3. A doctor of chiropractic may not practice acupuncture in this state unless that doctor has completed a course and passed an examination in acupuncture as required.
4. A doctor of chiropractic may perform dry needling if they have completed training from an approved college or organization.
5. Chiropractors shall not prescribe for or administer to any person any medicine or drugs or practice medicine or surgery or osteopathy, except that the use of antiseptics for purposes of sanitation and hygiene and to prevent infection and contagion shall be permitted.
