New Mexico Chiropractic Summary

The Chiropractic Board regulates the practice of licensed chiropractors in New Mexico. “Chiropractic” means the science, art and philosophy of things natural, the science of locating and removing interference with the transmissions or expression of nerve forces and adjacent structures, more especially those of the vertebral column and pelvis, for the purpose of restoring and maintaining health for treatment of human disease primarily by, but not limited to, adjustment and manipulation of the human structure. It shall include, but not be limited to, the use of all natural agencies to assist in the healing act, such as food, water, heat, cold, electricity, mechanical appliances, herbs, nutritional supplements, homeopathic remedies and any necessary diagnostic procedure, excluding invasive procedures, except as provided by the board by rule and regulation. It shall exclude operative surgery and prescription or use of controlled or dangerous drugs.

Continuing education seminars and programs provided by entities or organizations that meet the criteria established by the board under Subsections E and F of 16.4.10.8 NMAC and who intend to submit approval for more than 10 but less than 25 continuing education programs or seminars will be assessed a fee of $500

Qualifications:

1. Must complete a certified training course.

2. A chiropractor can perform a Department of Transportation (DOT) physical exam if they are a certified medical examiner (CME) listed on the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration’s (FMCSA) National Registry.

3. Must be licensed under the Acupuncture Act.

4. Chiropractors can perform dry needling techniques, but it must be classified as “meridian therapy” within their practice.
